A Long-awaited Ceasefire in Aleppo

According to Inside Syria Media Center, the Syrian government announced an establishment of an eight-hour humanitarian pause in Aleppo on October 20. It is will be useful for evacuation of civilians from the eastern regions and will allow fighters from Jabhat Fateh al-Sham safe passage out of the city. During this time (8 a.m. – 4 p.m.) there will be organized several additional humanitarian corridors for the export of the sick and wounded.
The Syrian Army is ready to enter into negotiations with “moderate opposition” to stop bloodshed in Aleppo. However, most political analysts agree that the truce in Aleppo will be long-termed only if the opposition is separated from the terrorists and the negotiations between the government forces and “moderate” opposition get started.
In this regard at last Monday’s UN Security Council meeting, the participants agreed to start the process of separation of the opposition. This process will be led by the US and Russian military, it is also planned to engage analysts from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar. According to experts, the decision may be called, without exaggeration, one of the most important one of all the conflict.
The official representative of the UN Secretary General Stefan Dyuzharrik commenting an eight-hour ceasefire in Aleppo told reporters of the Syrian SANA that the UN welcomes any break in the fighting, and uses this to improve the humanitarian situation in the city.
In turn, an Italian politician and the current High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said that the humanitarian pause in Aleppo and the separation of the opposition certainly are positive steps and can become a “long-awaited key” that can help solve the Syrian conflict.
Currently, the Government Army conducts successful combat operations in Aleppo and confidently liberates the city from militants from Jabhat Fateh al-Sham. However, the command of the Syrian army is very concerned about citizens who are hostages of terrorists in the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo. Terrorists use them as “human shields” and prevent their exit from the war zone through humanitarian corridors prepared by the government. This concern for the lives of civilians caused the invitation to terrorists – to lay down their arms and leave the city through two special corridors in the Idlib area.
This offer to provide the militants with a safe exit from Aleppo is undoubtedly a gesture of goodwill of the Syrian government, which is taking real steps to resolve the situation in Aleppo, avoid civilian casualties and establish a dialogue with the opposition.
